August 18, 2009: Answered Prayer

Hello Friends and Family,

We hope this post finds you all well. We want to apologize for the delay since our last post as it has been almost 8 months ago. Please know our lack of communication does not mean that we do not think of you all often.

The past 8 months has been full of change accompanied with many challenges. We have moved to Pennsylvania, changed jobs (Malcolm), started school (Christy) all while trying to move the adoption efforts forward. Our lack of communication has been in part related to further challenges and upsets related to adoption. Our move to Pennsylvania meant having to update/redo our homestudy again to meet Pennsylvania requirements. Every state has different requirements. The homestudy process tends to be lengthy so, we decided to take a “break” from adoption pursuits and focus on redoing our homestudy while I was in school over the next year and got acclimated to the area. This summer we did submit our profile for consideration for a couple situations that arose however, were not chosen by the birthmother or birthparents. One night in late July, we found out we were once again not chosen and to put it plainly, we literally cried out in pain to our loving Father asking for mercy and guidance. We simply prayed that if we were not meant to be parents to please show us so, we could move forward and start planning a life without children.

Our gracious God answered our prayers! Two nights later, we got an email from a small agency out of Florida (connected through another agency) and they wanted to know if we wanted to submit our profile for a potential situation. It was Saturday night and the agency was meeting with the birthparents on Monday. Thus, we sent our profile out in time to arrive by Monday for presentation to the birthparents. I distinctly remember where I was when I got a call Monday night at about 5:15 pm from the agency. The birthparents had chosen us! Praise God!!
To make a longer story short, we are going to be PARENTS of a GIRL any day!! The baby is due October 4th however, the birthmother has been “diagnosed” with premature labor and expected to deliver any day. We are praying hard that the baby will stay in the womb as long as possible given that the longer she is in the womb the better it is for her development.
To close, we are writing today with excitement, anxiousness, nervousness, optimism, and thankfulness for each of you. We are obviously concerned for our baby girl, but know God is in control regardless of the outcome! Most importantly, we want to thank you for supporting us throughout our adoption journey so far. We look forward to writing soon with good news!!

We miss you all and look forward to catching up soon.

This poem seems so fitting to share with everyone. We will share it over and over with our little girl throughout her life.

Legacy Of An Adoptive Child

Once there were two women
Who never knew each other;
One you do not remember
The other you call mother.

Two different lives
Shaped to make your one;
One became your guiding star
The other became your sun.

The first gave you life
And the second taught you to live in it;
The first gave you a need for love
And the second was there to give it.

One gave you a ntionality
The other gave you a name;
One gave you the seed of talent
The other gave you aim.

One gave you emotions
The other calmed your fears;
One saw your first sweet smile
The other dried your tears.

One made an adoption plan
It was all that she could do;
The other prayer for a child
And God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me
Through your tears;
The age-old question
Through the years.

Heredity or environment-
Which are you the product of??
Neither, my darling...neither
Just two different kinds of love.
